Keys to the Abundant Life

Happy Sunday!

I'm praying that last week was wonderful, and that you are ready to embark on the new week!   3 John 2 says, "My beloved friend, I pray that everything is going well for you and that your body is as healthy as your soul is prosperous."(Voice).   John 10:10 says, "The thief approaches with malicious intent, looking to steal, slaughter, and destroy; I came to give life with Joy and Abundance."(Voice).   God wants you to have an Abundant Life.  But just because he prepared it for you, does not mean you will enjoy it.  We have a part to play in this thing called life.  The following is a post from Barry Bennett, "Keys to the Abundant Life".  Enjoy!

Keys to the Abundant Life, by Barry Bennett

The abundant life is God’s idea (John. 10:10).
What does it look like? Where does it come from?

Meditate on the following verses and thoughts. His abundance is in you!

1. "Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth." (Ephesians. 4:28).

Your job is a source for both you and for others.

2. "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." (Matthew. 6:33).

Jesus taught how the Kingdom works. Read the parables and illustrations of Jesus until you get it.

3. "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you." (Luke 6:38).

This verse isn’t only about money. It is about everything within you by the grace of God.  Give what God has given you and you will see increase in your life on every level.

4. "Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the first fruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine."(Proverbs 3:9-10).

A transformed heart will cheerfully honor the Lord.  This is not a religious duty, but a joyful cooperation with extending the kingdom to the world.  Support ministries that have God’s heart for the world.

God’s heart is to bless you, heal you, redeem you and prosper you. He wants you to have an abundant life. God wants you to be prosperous spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically, relationally, and financially. He wants you to have more than enough to accomplish your purpose on this earth.

When your life is lived from your position of peace, joy, righteousness and love, giving will be a natural extension of who you are (and who He is!).

Seek how the Kingdom works, Give from every area of your life, and honor God with the first fruits of your increase. Let the abundance of your heart flow toward God and others. Break the chains of fear, lack and the love of money! Let the Giver live through you!

God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work…while you are enriched in everything for all liberality!(2 Corinthians 9:8).

Heavenly Wisdom

Happy Sunday!

What is the secret to success?  Millions of inquiring minds want to know!  There are whole libraries written about how to be successful in 5, 7, and 10 easy steps.  The Bible says, "Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do! And with your wisdom, develop common sense and good judgment."(Proverbs 4:7, Living Bible).  When Adam sold out to Satan, he lost his mind or his ability to think like God.  Don't forget Adam was entrusted with naming every creature on earth.  What kind of brilliant mind must he have had to name every thing from a Tenebrio molitor(Meal Worm) to an Orcinus orca(Killer Whale)?  He had a mind in the God Class, a mind with access to the Wisdom of God.

Dr. Bill Winston continued the series, "Christ In You", with the subtitle, "The Mind of Christ".   Jesus is called the "Second Adam",  He came to get our right mind back.  He came to restore our mental and physical dignity.   You are probably very familiar with 1 Corinthians 2:9.  It's quoted or misquoted all the time.  It says, "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him."(KJV).   We have to remember that these texts were not written in chapter and verse.  The Apostle Paul does not stop his thought at the end of this sentence.  In order to get the full understanding, we must continue reading to verse 16.

Let's read it...

"But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.  BUT God hath REVEALED them unto US by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
NOW we have received, NOT the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might KNOW the things that are freely given to us of God.  Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.  But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.  But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him?  BUT we have the MIND of Christ."(KJV).

Don't miss this!  When we receive the Spirit of God, and are Born Again, we receive the wisdom of God through the Mind of Christ.  We now have access to Heavenly Wisdom.   Did you know there are three types of wisdom?  There is Heavenly or Godly Wisdom, Earthly wisdom, and Demonic wisdom. James 3:13-17 says, "Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.  But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. THIS wisdom descendeth not from above, but is Earthly, Sensual, Devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. BUT the wisdom that is from above is first Pure, then Peaceable, Gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy."(KJV).  James 1:5 says, "Do any of you need wisdom? Ask GOD for it. He is generous and enjoys giving to everyone. So he will give you wisdom."(Easy-to-Read Version).  All we have to do is ask!  That's incredible!

Earlier I mentioned that we now have "Access" to this Godly Wisdom.  If we have access to it, you may ask why so many Christians seem to be failing miserably at life?  Great question!  I've asked that myself, many times.  Think about it this way, a man could be dying from dehydration and then come into a room with several types of faucets or water fountains.  If these fountains are not automatically releasing water, the man could die in the room even though water is available simply because he lacks knowledge about how to get water from these units.  Hosea 4:6 says, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge:"(KJV).  The answers and wisdom exist.  God wants you to succeed, but you will need to, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."(2 Timothy 2:15, KJV).

Asking God for wisdom.

Run to Win

Happy Sunday!

It's been a great week, and a happy Sunday!  Today, my daughter Crystal ran in, and completed the Rock N Roll Half Marathon Chicago.  I volunteered at our Kingdom Running Club water station.  I'm a morning person, so getting out to the site by 5:15 am was no problem.  In the church, many times you would hear a preacher say that hearing other preachers made them want to preach.  I totally understand.  I am a teacher, and everywhere I go I have teachable moments, and I gain wisdom to share and use later.  I must say the running club leaders are amazing and the process was very organized.  We served Gatorade and water to thousands of runners.

What did I learn?  So glad you asked!   We need each other.  Running is not my thing, I enjoy walking.  I go out to the lake and can do 6 or 7 miles of walking and enjoy it.  But runners enjoy running, and they are inspiring and energetic.  The runners needed fluids to stay hydrated.  Although I did see a man with a water bottle in every pocket, most runners were packing light.  It made me think of  Hebrews 12:1, "Since we have such a huge crowd of men of faith watching us from the grandstands, let us strip off anything that slows us down or holds us back, and especially those sins that wrap themselves so tightly around our feet and trip us up; and let us run with patience the particular race that God has set before us."(Living Bible).  We need others to water our lives.  When we are kind, giving, and compassionate we are watering the lives of others.  Life can be hard.  There are days when you just want to stay in bed,  Those are the days when we need a good morning text, a sweet compliment, and an encouraging word.

I also learned to finish what you start.  More than likely this was just a reminder to me, because I can guarantee I learned this from my mother.  We could not move from one task to another until the first task was complete.  Want to go out to play?  Finish your chores!  Want to go anywhere on a Sunday afternoon, get up and go to church first!   Want dessert?  Finish your vegetables!  LOL!  My Auntee Sophia has run many marathons as well.  I recall a conversation we had about what happens to the runners that have not finished by the time the race ends.  She sadly spoke of a bus or van picking those runners up to take them to the finish.  Those runners did not finish the race in the allotted time and did not get a medal.  Unlike children's sports team that give every participant a trophy, in this life you have to finish to get the prize.  The Apostle Paul wrote to the Galatians, "You were running the race nobly. Who has interfered in (hindered and stopped you from) your heeding and following the Truth?"(Galatians 5:7, Amplified).  We must finish what we have started!  1 Corinthians 9:24-25 says, "You’ve all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You’re after one that’s gold eternally."(Message).

I make friends everywhere I go.  I met a wonderful lady today, that has been running with the Kingdom Running Club for years. She is a member of another local church in our area.  Her husband was traveling for business and just disappeared.  After days she received a call.  He was in a hospital in another state in grave condition.  She made it to him just before he died.  She was grieving when a friend reminded her of her love for running.  She joined the running club and rekindled her passion for running and has been healed.   You know my favorite poem, "Don't Quit" says, "Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a failure turns about, When he might have won if he'd stuck it out. Don't give up, though the pace seems slow - You may succeed with another blow."

Run to Win!

Enriched

Happy Sunday!

2 Corinthians 9:6-11 says, "Remember this: The one who plants FEW seeds will have a small harvest. But the one who plants a lot will have a big harvest.  Each one of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give. You should NOT give if it makes you unhappy or if you feel forced to give. God loves those who are happy to give.  And God can give you MORE blessings than you need, and you will always have PLENTY of EVERYTHING.  You will have enough to GIVE to every good work.  As the Scriptures say, “He gives generously to the poor; his goodness will continue forever.”  God is the one who gives seed to those who plant, and he gives bread for food.  And God will give you spiritual seed and make that seed grow. He will produce a great harvest from your goodness. God will make you RICH in EVERY WAY so that you can always give freely. And your giving through us will make people give thanks to God."(Easy-to-Read Version).

This is one of my favorite Bible passages!  I've read it many, many times and today I saw something that I missed before.  In the King James Version, verse 11 says, "Being ENRICHED in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God."(KJV).   Immediately, I thought of bread, white bread.  I know you are probably thinking how and why this made me think of white bread?  I'm working to eat healthier options.  White bread is not considered healthy.  Why?  Great question!  White bread as we know it in the American Diet has been stripped of all of the natural nutrients during the bleaching process, then vitamins and nutrients are added to enrich it or make it better.  This verse says giving of our time and resources causes us to be enriched in everything!  Anything that is removed from our lives never really leaves our lives.  Proverbs 19:17 says, "When you help the poor you are lending to the Lord—and he pays wonderful interest on your loan!"(Living Bible).

Psalm 41:1-3 says, "God blesses those who are kind to the poor.  He HELPS them out of their troubles.  He PROTECTS them and KEEPS them alive; he publicly HONORS them and destroys the power of their enemies.  He NURSES them when they are sick and SOOTHES their pains and worries."(Living Bible).  These are awesome benefits for being kind to the poor!  Dr. Bill Winston mentioned the American Billionaire, John D. Rockefeller today.  You know I enjoy reading and research, so I read more about the man.  Not only is it mentioned in several sources that he was a tither,  a philanthropist, and a faithful Baptist, but Historical records also tell of his habit of passing out dimes.  I personally find dimes on the ground all the time.  Abandoned because their value is so small in our generation, but back in 1800's and early 1900's a dime could buy much more!  One quote from John D. Rockefeller falls right in line with these scriptures, "Giving should be entered into in just the same way as investing. Giving is investing".  Sounds just like what God says in his Word!

God wants to "enrich" you in every area of your life.  Will you "Give" him a chance?

Freedom

Happy Sunday!

Stevie Wonder wrote, "You know it doesn't make much sense;  There ought to be a law against; Anyone who takes offense; At a day in your celebration".  Of course these are the lyrics to "Happy Birthday", a song written to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.   These words however can apply to so many other occasions.  Tuesday marks the celebration of Independence Day in the USA.  We celebrate the nation's freedom from the British Empire.  Each year we are reminded of the history of one nation being formed and breaking free from the rule or dominion of another.  As Christians, we should regularly recall and celebrate what we have been freed from.   Galatians 5:1 says, "We have freedom now, because Christ made us free. So stand strong in that freedom. Don’t go back into slavery again."(Easy-to-Read Version).

We have been freed from FEAR.  2 Timothy 1:7 says, "The Spirit God gave us does not make us afraid. His Spirit is a source of power and love and self-control."(Easy-to-Read Version).

We have been freed from a life of SIN.  Romans 6:18 says, "The beauty of your new situation is this: now that you are free from sin, you are free to serve a different master, God’s redeeming justice."(Voice).

We have been freed from BONDAGE.  Romans 8:15 says, "And so we should not be like cringing, fearful slaves, but we should behave like God’s very own children, adopted into the bosom of his family, and calling to him, “Father, Father.”(Living Bible).

We have been freed from SICKNESS.  1 Peter 2:24 says, "He personally bore our sins in his own body on the cross, so that we might be dead to sin and be alive to all that is good. It was the suffering that he bore which HAS healed you."(Phillips).

We have been freed from POVERTY.  2 Corinthians 8:9 says, "For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be RICH."(KJV).

For many years my children and I celebrated Independence Day with my Uncle Lee Green Sr. and my Aunt Lois Green.  Uncle Lee would always remind me that many African-Americans in the southern states did not celebrate July 4th.  Instead they put more emphasis on June 19th or Juneteenth.  Perhaps, you already know about Juneteenth but if not the simple definition is...slavery ended in the USA, but many slaves did not find out they were free for two and a half years.  Satan our enemy does the same thing to us.  As long as we are ignorant of the benefits of our freedom in Christ, we will continue to live as slaves.   Don't be that person!  Get into the Bible and learn about all the benefits available to you!
