What Women and Men Really Want

Happy Sunday!

We went to church Wednesday night. Bishop Joseph W. Walker III from Mount Zion Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee was our special guest. He and his wife, Dr. Stephanie Walker are on a "Relationship Tour".

This information is so good, I couldn't wait to share it with you.

Bishop Walker explained God's Intent for Relationships. When God formed Adam from the dust, the spirit of Eve was inside him. He didn't take Eve out of Adam until Adam had purpose and a job! He gave Adam the task of naming all of the "beasts". Adam named every beast. He never saw a beast and considered that that beast could be his mate. Perhaps, you have had some "beasty" relationships. Relationships that make you wonder, "What was I thinking?" Just Praise God that those "beasty" relationships make you appreciate the God ordained relationship. Adam knew that his mate needed specific characteristics. When the time was right God put Adam to sleep and pulled out one of his ribs. God closed the incision quickly, and formed the woman from the rib. God didn't need Adam's help. When Adam awoke, he saw Eve and said...“Finally! Bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh! Name her Woman for she was made from Man.” Genesis 2.:23 (Message Translation)

From that time and even now, our enemy has been working against relationships. He took on the form of a snake and found the weak point in Adam and Eve's relationship. The Strength of the Man is VISION, and the Strength of the Woman is TALKING. Adam was busy looking at something else, not realizing Eve wanted to talk. The enemy talked to Eve, and was able to sow his seeds of discord.
What Every Christian Man really wants in a mate...
1) Anchored - Men want a woman whose anchored and not "spooky". Bishop Walker recounted the time after his first wife passed away. He waited several years, then began to date. He said women would say, "God told me you are my husband", "The Spirit of the Lord has really favored me", and a host of other silly things. Men want a spiritual woman, not a spooky woman.
2) Attitude - Men want a woman with a good attitude. Most women can trace their pain back to a man. It could have been a father that didn't provide a covering, an abusive spouse, or a relationship that went badly. Men want a woman that won't expect him to pay the bill for emotional debt he didn't cause. Proverbs 27:15 says, "A nagging spouse is like the drip, drip, drip of a leaky faucet; You can’t turn it off, and you can’t get away from it." (Message Translation) Proverbs 21:19 say, "Better to live in a tent in the wild than with a cross and petulant spouse." (Message Translation)
3) Authentic - Men want authenticity! No Fakes! Proverbs 31 says, "Charm can mislead and beauty soon fades. The woman to be admired and praised is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-God." (Message Translation)
4) Adaptability - Men want women who can adapt. He wants to know you are with him in the mansion and you will be with him in the studio apartment as well.
5) Academic - Men want women with brains! No man wants a stupid woman, at least not as a lifelong mate. Bishop Walker said, "You may not have a PhD, but a GED is a good start,"
6) Ambition - Men want a woman with ambition! Busy understands busy! Proverbs 31 says, "First thing in the morning, she dresses for work,
rolls up her sleeves, eager to get started." (Message Translation)
7) Assistance - Men want a woman who can assist them. Genesis 2:18 says, God said, “It’s not good for the Man to be alone; I’ll make him a helper, a companion.” (Message Translation)
8) Affirmation - Men want to be affirmed. They want to know when they get it right! Even God will one day affirm us, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant..." Matthew 25:21 (King James Version)
9) Appearance - Men are visual! Men enjoy looking at beautiful things. Men want women that are conscious and concerned about their appearance.
10) Affection - Men want affection. Physical and emotional. Bishop Walker used this example, " A wife knows her husband has to work this evening. She cooks his favorite meal and dessert. He is so full and satisfied. He drives to work. He passes all of the restaurants and fast food joints. He has no desire to stop in and get something, because he was full and satisfied when he left home." Selah. Hebrews 13:4 says, "Honor marriage, and guard the sacredness of sexual intimacy between wife and husband. God draws a firm line against casual and illicit sex." (Message Translation)
What Every Christian Woman really wants in a mate...
1) Christian - Women want authentic, spiritual, prayerful men. A man that is not ashamed to Worship and is submitted to God.
2) Communicate - Women want a man that can communicate. He needs to be able to use the King's English as well as understand her. It's important to know that men and women have different communication styles. Men have the period communication style; meaning that after the event, argument, or heated discussion has ended he believes that it's over...period. Women have the process communication style; meaning long after the event, argument, or heated discussion the woman is still processing the information and comparing those past events to current situations.
3) Capacity - Women want a man with the capacity to improve and do better. Women want a man with "Drive".
4) Career - Women want a man who his gainfully employed or successfully entrepreneurial or both!
5) Credit - Women want a man with Good Credit, which speaks to his Integrity.
6) Credible - Women want a man with credibility, which means Honesty.
7) Clothing - ZZ Topp sang, "Every girl's crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man!" Women want a man that is conscious of, and concerned about his appearance.
8) Chivalrous - Chivalry is defined as "the sum of the ideal qualifications of a knight, including courtesy, generosity, valor, and dexterity in arms". Women want that!
9) Compassionate - Women want men that are compassionate. Jesus was the greatest example! He was living the purpose driven life but he found time to stop and heal the sick, raise the dead and feed the hungry.
10) Charisma - Bishop Walker called this "Swagger". Women want a man who is confident in his skills and abilities.
There was so much more that Bishop Walker said...Happy Sunday is not long enough to write it all. I hope that you were able to use at least one piece of this awesome message. Married or single, this information can be useful in the present or in the future. If Bishop Walker brings the Relationship Tour to your city, I hope you are able to attend.

Busy Sunday

Good Morning!

We had connection problems with our internet service all weekend.  So I wasn't able to get "Happy Sunday" out as usual.

I planned to type it up Saturday night and send it off early Sunday morning because we had an "ole Fashioned" all day church day.

We went to regular morning worship.  Our guest speaker was Bishop Walter Thomas from Baltimore, Maryland.  He preached lead by example.  He used 1 Chronicles 29:1-5 as his reference scripture.  He encouraged us to be leaders in every area of our lives.  King David wanted to build a temple for the Lord.  It was his desire.  Sometimes we misunderstand the following scripture..."Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart." Psalm 37:4 (King James Version)  The desire of David's heart was to build the temple, but God told him "NO".  Contrary to popular belief, we don't always get what we want!  But any of us who have lived for a while know that even if we don't get what we want...things always work out for our good and God's glory.

We went to a second service at Greater Progressive Christian Church in Phoenix, Arizona.  Greater Progressive was celebrating their Pastor's 24th Pastoral Anniversary.  Pastor Bertrand Russell, Pastor of Fountain of Life House of Worship preached, "Stay In The Race!"  He used Hebrews 12:1-2 as his reference scripture, "Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls! (Message Translation)

Finally, we returned to our home church, Pilgrim Rest Full Gospel Baptist Church for a concert.  The Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles came to celebrate Black History Month with us.  They were excellent!  You should check them out...(http://www.icyola.org).

Praying that this week you lead by example and stay in the race!

Love and prayers, Cynthia

Something Good Is Coming

Happy Sunday!
Bishop Alexis A. Thomas preached, "I Feel Like Something Is Coming!" He used Proverbs 3:9-10 as his reference scriptures.

Proverbs 3:9-10 says, "Honor the Lord with your wealth and the first part of your harvest. Then your barns will be full of grain, and your barrels will be overflowing with wine." (ERV Version)

Our enemy wants to diminish our sense of expectation! He wants us to doubt GOD. He doesn't want us to look for better, anticipate better, or believe for better. The enemy enjoys seeing us depressed, oppressed, and obsessed with negativity.

The WORD says, "That’s why we live with such good cheer. You won’t see us drooping our heads or dragging our feet! Cramped conditions here don’t get us down. They only remind us of the spacious living conditions ahead. It’s what we trust in but don’t yet see that keeps us going. Do you suppose a few ruts in the road or rocks in the path are going to stop us? When the time comes, we’ll be plenty ready to exchange exile for homecoming." 2 Corinthians 5:7 (Message Translation) This same verse in The King James Version says, "For we walk by faith, not by sight".

"Faith assures us of things we expect and convinces us of the existence of things we cannot see." Hebrews 11:1 (God's Word Translation)

I agree with Bishop, "I feel like something is coming!" It may not be easy, and it may not come quickly, but something good is coming your way! When we obey GOD we show our Faith. The WORD says, "It’s impossible to please God apart from faith. And why? Because anyone who wants to approach God must believe both that he exists and that he cares enough to respond to those who seek him." Hebrews 11:6 (Message Translation)

Something GOOD is coming your way!

The Power of Positioning

Happy Sunday!

Associate Minister Tanea Morrison preached, "The Power of Positioning". She used 1 Samuel 16:1, 13 as her reference scriptures.

You have a Purpose! You have a Destiny! You have a reason for living! The enemy wants you to be discouraged and to doubt God's plan for your life. That's why the Apostle Paul wrote, "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." Romans 10:17 (King James Version) We need to continually be reminded of the promises of God. We must live "Intentionally"!

In Samuel 16, God tells Samuel the Prophet to snap out of his depression and mourning, and go out to anoint the new King of Israel. Samuel was sad because King Saul didn't work out. Saul didn't put God first. So Samuel was instructed to go to the house of Jesse in Bethlehem. Jesse brought out all of his tall, good looking sons before the prophet. Samuel attempted to anoint them, but the oil would not flow. Samuel was concerned, and in verse 11, he asks Jesse, "Is this it? Are there no more sons?" (Message Translation) Jesse had one more son, David. David was out tending the sheep. They went and got David. When Samuel poured the oil over David's head it began to flow. David was anointed as the new king.

So what did David do then? He went back to work tending the sheep.

Three things we have to understand about The Power of Positioning...
1) Looks can be deceiving! Jesse and Samuel expected the new king to be tall, dark and handsome. They underestimated David and they didn't understand God. Verse 7 says, “Looks aren’t everything. Don’t be impressed with his looks and stature. I’ve already eliminated him. God judges persons differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart.” (Message Translation) "Quite honestly, most people are quick to “write someone off.” But our God is a God of the second chance." - Woodrow Kroll

2) Don't take matters into your own hands! David didn't run out to get business cards proclaiming his new position. He didn't jump the gun. He humbly continued to work where he was. What a great example for us! It may seem that we are being overlooked or passed over, but we can trust God to exalt us in due season if we don't faint. Isaiah 40:31 says, "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." (King James Version)
3) Trust God's Timing! It took 15 years for David to actually take the throne. Time trains the character. "Don't be afraid to give your best to what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones will tend to take care of themselves." ~Dale Carnegie
The world needs what you have to offer! Trust God to position you in the right place at the right time!
