Happy Sunday!
Mark 12:24 says, "You can’t see the truth because you don’t know the Scriptures well and because you don’t really believe that God is powerful."(Voice). Ouch!
Mark 12:20-29 is good reading. Jesus was being asked a complicated question by the religious leaders. They weren't really looking for answers, they just wanted to try to catch Jesus slipping. BUT you know that will never happen. Jesus not only taught, and preached the Word...He is the Word! John 1:1 says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."(KJV).
The question that they asked was a convoluted question about the marriage practices of the day, and how these relationships would translate in Heaven. Before we start judging them, don't forget that we ask crazy questions too. Will there be cars in heaven? Will we have to work in heaven? Will all dogs really go to heaven, or just the West Highland White Terriers? We may be curious, but these specifics won't really matter. In the grand scheme of things we will be busy in worship..."And then I heard EVERYONE in heaven and earth, and from the dead beneath the earth and in the sea, exclaiming, “The blessing and the honor and the glory and the power belong to the one sitting on the throne, and to the Lamb forever and ever."(Revelation 5:12, Living Bible).
Now, before you accuse me of asking you to check your brain at the door...I do believe intelligence, intellect, and the pursuit of knowledge are very important to our Christianity. The Apostle Paul encouraged his son in the Ministry, Timothy, by saying..."Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."(2 Timothy 2:15, KJV). ALSO don't miss Jesus' rebuke to the Pharisees, "But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over Judgment and the Love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone."(Luke 11:42, KJV).
Learn the scriptures, and don't forget the power of God! 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, "Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action), so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work."(Amplified).
Love and prayers, Cynthia
