Happy Sunday!
1 Corinthians 2:4 says, "The sermons I preached were not delivered with the kind of persuasive elegance some have come to expect, but they were effective because I relied on God’s Spirit to demonstrate God’s power."(Voice). Don't miss this! The Apostle Paul wants the readers of this letter to know that in everything he did, he had to rely on God's Spirit and Power. What a wonderful example, especially as we enter the New Year and everyone is looking for a fresh start. Some set goals, others make resolutions, and some even make promises to God. But Psalm 37:23 gives us even more insight on what really works, "The Lord shows us how we should live, and he is pleased when he sees people living that way."(Easy-to-Read Version).
Our lesson in Children's Church today was "Hearing God's Voice". It was no accident that several ministers I heard today were also talking about the same thing. Hearing, recognizing, and obeying the Voice of God is a life and death matter. Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me."(John 10:27, KJV). It's imperative that we know the Voice of God. It's also criminal to fail to teach our children how to hear the Voice of God. There are so many unknowns in life. But we have a secret weapon. The very Spirit of the All-Knowing, All-Seeing, and Always Present God lives in us. All we have to do is listen!
The Best way to recognize the Voice of God is to know and trust the Word of God. When we trust His faithfulness, and truth, we can be confident that he has our best interest at heart. 2 Peter 3:9 says, "Now the Lord is not slow about enacting His promise—slow is how some people want to characterize it—no, He is not slow but patient and merciful to you, not wanting anyone to be destroyed, but wanting everyone to turn away from following his own path and to turn toward God’s."(Voice). Did you see that? What is God wanting? What is he waiting for? He wants us to hear his voice, and follow his path. Sure, I know you're Grown! You can finally live the way you want and do what you please. But God doesn't have any grandchildren. You are his child and you will always be his child. In the grand scheme of things there will always be things he knows that you haven't got a clue about. Why not let your loving Daddy help you with it?
"Now pay attention; I am standing at the door and knocking. If any of you hear My VOICE and open the door, then I will come in to visit with you and to share a meal at your table, and you will be with Me."(Revelation 3:20, Voice).
Love and prayers, Cynthia
