Have you asked God?

Happy Sunday!

I just took a look back at some e-mails I received in 2003.  Can you believe there was an e-mail full of cartoons.  The cartoons were poking fun at the high price of gasoline.  Here we are again five years later and those cartoons are relevant.

But it made me think.  All the news reports and special reports from the economists and the politicians,  but what is GOD saying.  Has anyone asked him?

Well the Word of GOD tells us that GOD doesn't want us to fear anything and fear is not a gift he gives his children.

2 Timothy 1:7 (New Living Translation)

God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

He Gives us power, love, and self-discipline.  The amplified translation says it even better;

2 Timothy 1:7 (Amplified Bible)

God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.

Don't get me wrong, I'm fighting the same fight you are.  I'm tempted daily to fear that I won't have enough, that my life won't be all I desire, that my children won't be productive citizens, that I won't be able to afford gas for my car or any number of other fears.  BUT GOD, didn't create me for worry.  He created me to worship and praise him.  He promised to handle all my cares...

1 Peter 5:7 (New Living Translation)

7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

Matthew 6:25-34

25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?  28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God[
d] above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

So while I encourage myself, I hope I can encourage you.  I'm thinking of a song...the lyrics say...

Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full at his wonderful face,  And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of his glory and grace.

Have a great week! Love, Cynthia
